Join Narrative Arts Resident Alum Maxwell Neely-Cohen to learn how to sequence and generate music using the programming language Orca. Orca allows a unique approach to coding by building rhythms and melodies out of shifting alphanumeric characters. Reminiscent of John Conway’s Game of Life, video games like Dwarf Fortress, or old school ASCII art, Orca connects easily to almost any electronic instrument, allowing participants to explore new forms of performance.Date: This one-time online workshop meets on Tuesday, January 18 from 7-9pm ET via Zoom.Price: Free (Suggested $10 donation).Audience: Open to all.Materials: Access to a computer and WiFi.Maxwell Neely-Cohen is a writer and technologist living in New York City. Since falling in love with live coding in 2018, he has been a member of the livecode.nyc collective, performed at The International Conference for Live Coding, and featured in The Financial Times and The New York Times.
