About this event

The City of Austin Economic Development's Art in Public Places (AIPP) program is hosting an online engagement opportunity to further the conversation for new public art funded by the Highland Neighborhood Park Concept Plan project. As Highland Park users and community members, your feedback will inspire the selection of an artist to design commissioned artwork for the site and help guide the Art in Public Places project so, that upon installation, it is welcomed by the community.

We invite you to attend two one-hour sessions.

Session #1: At this kick-off, we will share a short status update on the sponsor project, then we will share a bit about the Art in Public Places program. Staff will then ask you to spend the remaining time together dreaming of the possible inspirations or goals to spark an artist to create an artwork for the site.

Session #2: We will present the project outline or prospectus that captures the goals, the artwork opportunities, the artist selection process and the schedule and get your feedback on any revisions needed before we bring it to the Art in Public Places Panel for approval.

About the Highland Neighborhood Park Concept Plan:

The Parks and Recreation Department is in Phase 2 of the Highland Neighborhood Park concept plan implementation. The concept plan for Highland Neighborhood Park was completed in 2017 through input from community members and provides a vision for future development. Phase 1 of implementation was completed in 2019 and included the installation of a new playground. Phase 2 of implementation began with community input to further the park design and construction feasibility of this phase.
