Event description
Join True Story Theater's Winter Fundraiser on Zoom! Support community-building theater with heart by donating and/or attending on Dec 9th.

About this event

Please join True Story Theater for an evening of fun, learning, reflection, and connection. Let’s come together to celebrate and support the healing power of Playback Theatre! All are welcome, whether new to Playback or familiar with this powerful form of interactive theater, long-time fans, or Playback actors from across the globe.

A short video (3min) invitation for you from True Story Theater Actors!

As we continue to emerge from the COVID pandemic, hope is on the horizon. We now live in a world where we have learned to adapt, cope, change, innovate, transform, grieve, persevere, and be resilient in order to continue living our lives at home, at work, and in community.

As we contemplate the challenges, losses, gifts and blessings of our COVID experience, we are taking stock of what this new world looks like, personally and collectively.

What has happened in our lives, and how do we feel about it?  How have we learned to adapt?  Who are we now?  Where do we go from here?

Please join us for our winter fundraising event, Thursday, December 9th, 6:30 - 9:00 p.m.  We will share experiences that explore these themes, stories of our struggles and victories, and our hopes for what lies ahead.

Reserve your ticket to attend: Choose the ticket option that works for you: $25, $50, $100, or $5+ to $100+ You can even buy a "Table" for 4 -12 guests! Please come and give what you can.

More about True Story Theater's Work

Over the past two years of the pandemic, True Story Theater successfully adapted our uniquely interactive art form to Zoom, bringing people together from both the Boston region and worldwide to share their stories about the unexpected challenges and joys of the turbulent times of the pandemic, and the elusive return to a “new normal.”

We asked questions and listened for the answers... How do we love and care for ourselves and each other in a global pandemic? We explored the nature of race, difference, and identity, both visible and invisible. Our active bystander workshops helped people learn to stand up effectively to bias and bigotry. Our ongoing open Playback workshops and classes helped participants see themselves and others more deeply and compassionately.

Please Join Us

True Story Theater does 75-100 public and private performances and workshops a year. We welcome and honor the many untold stories from under-represented and marginalized communities. This bi-annual fundraiser is crucial to help us provide powerful workshops and performances to many communities and groups that do not have the budget to hire us.

Our fundraising goal for this event is $5,000. Your donations will help us to match grants we have received and ensure that our programs are accessible to all. Even if you can't attend the event, you can still donate, buy a ticket for yourself, or gift a friend.

Thank you for your support! We appreciate you!

Organizer True Story Theater

True Story Theater is a nonprofit theater company that offers 75-100 improvisational performances and workshops a year for community groups, civic organizations, and individuals. We work with human rights commissions, universities, hospitals, community groups and more … for teen leaders, cancer survivors, activists, business leaders… as well as for weddings, birthdays, and other important private events.

We perform and teach an embodied theatre of empathy, respect and creativity. Volunteers from the audience are helped to share what’s important in their lives. On the spot, actors then portray the heart of what they heard using music, movement, and dialogue.

From this simple interaction, people laugh, cry, share fresh insights, and bond. Our events create a respectful atmosphere where every voice can be heard and any story told — however ordinary or extraordinary, difficult or joyful. True Story Theater offers audiences fresh perspectives, deeper connections, and a renewed appreciation for our common humanity.
