2026 MFA Empty Space Festival

A series of works-in-progress showings of three plays by the First Year MFA Directors and Actors

A culmination of the first year curriculum, the Empty Space Project challenges directors to collaborate with the space, telling story with just actors and an empty room. Through in class and outside rehearsals, the directors and actors work together to bring to life a published text with an Empty Space. No additional tech, props, costumes, or design is allowed in these productions; just the space, the actors, and the words. Over the course of a month, three shows will be presented as works-in-progress over a weekend of performances.

All performances are free and general admission.

They will take place on the second floor of Abbott Hall at the Wirtz Center Downtown in room 206.
