What is the Lobo Hackathon?

The Lobo Hackathon is an opportunity for people to come together to intensely focus and collaborate on improving or creating an idea. Teams can build or refine an idea that sets out to address a problem, utilize a technology, or create something new!

Who should attend?

Open to all in the community - UNM students, faculty, staff, entrepreneurs, supporters. All disciplines are invited to participate. No experience is necessary. We welcome entrepreneurs, engineers, developers, designers, clinicians, and/or students who are interested in addressing challenges.

Question 3

I don't code or hack--what about me?

Accepted Answer

No problem. This is the perfect place and time to pick up new skills and concepts or to use your existing skills as part of an interdisciplinary team. There will be mentors to help guide you through the hackathon experience.

Question 4

What if I don’t have a team?

We will help you find people to work with. Participants are not required to have pre-existing ideas or teams to attend Hackathon. There must be a minimum of 2-people on a team to qualify for the Hackathon.

Question 5

How do teams work?

Accepted Answer

Teams work best with 5-8 members and must have at least 2 on a team. Participants will interact during the kickoff on Thursday evening where they are welcome to pitch their ideas to attract teammates with similar interests. Team will form at this time.

Question 6

What should I bring?

We encourage you to bring a laptop for research and development of the final presentation materials. We will provide food, beverages, private and semi-private working spaces, hacking materials and supplies.

Question 7

Do I have to stay the entire time?

Accepted Answer

You and your team can stay in the working spaces provided during the time frame mentioned on the agenda.  However, you are welcome to work elsewhere or keep working elsewhere once the Lobo Rainforest closes.

Question 8

Will I be photographed?

Accepted Answer

By agreeing to participate, you acknowledge that you could be photographed, videotaped, recorded, etc. and could be used in various forms of media.

Question 9

What do winning teams receive?

Accepted Answer

Winners will split a $19,000 prize pool. All federal, state and local taxes, if any, are the sole responsibility of the awardees.
