Join us for our 2025 Sally Henderson Lecture on Green Design as sustainable design expert Yatin Pandya presents “Sustainability is a Way of Life: Towards Humane, Sustainable, and Timeless Architecture" on Wednesday, May 7.

The talk will draw on his book, Concepts of Space in Traditional Indian Architecture, which outlines a holistic research method that takes into account timeless aesthetics, socio-cultural appropriateness, environmental sustainability, and functionality of space.

Pandya is an author, activist, academic, researcher, and principal architect at his firm, FOOTPRINTS E.A.R.T.H, a long-time visiting faculty member of CEPT University, and the Director at Vastu Shilpa Foundation For Studies and Research in Environmental Design since 2008. He has garnered more than forty national and international awards for architectural design and research, including special mention in the United Nations Habitat Award and the Curry Stone Foundation Design Prize for sustainable practice.

The Sally Henderson Green Design Lecture is an annual event created to honor the memory of NYSID faculty member, Sally Henderson, who developed the College’s first course in sustainable or green design.

Founded in 1916, New York School of Interior Design has been leading the study of interior design for over a century. A private, nonprofit college focused exclusively on interior design, NYSID offers certificate, undergraduate, and graduate programs for students at all stages of their careers—whether they’re just becoming familiar with the discipline, considering a career change, or looking to deepen knowledge in a particular area. Consistently ranked one of the top interior design programs in the United States, students study both residential and commercial interior design, some with specialties in sustainable design, lighting, and healthcare interiors. NYSID students enjoy a small class size and sharp focus, a great deal of personal attention from dedicated faculty, and they go on to practice at the highest levels of the profession. To learn more, visit NYSID.edu.
