About this event

  • 1 hour

Alexandria's award-winning Space of Her Own (SOHO) program seeks creative, culturally diverse, adult female volunteers for the upcoming 2024-2025 school year. We hope you'll join us for an information session to learn more about how our program is structured, what our expectations are for mentors, the girls we serve, and how you can apply to become a SOHO mentor.

SOHO seeks to create an environment in which girls feel free to express themselves, step outside of their comfort zone, and grow. By pairing mentors one-to-one with 5th grade girls, we hope to create the foundation that can serve for a long-lasting bond and mentoring relationship. Mentors and mentees work together each week on an array of projects throughout the year designed to teach girls to value creativity using unique professionally-led arts and STEM instruction to create items that will be used to transform the sleeping space of each girl. At the end of the year, mentors work with their mentee and their mentee's family to use all the pieces that they've designed and built together to give each girl a true Space of HER own.
