The Reformation Bible Society

The Reformation Bible Society is an educational association whose purpose is to foster and promote scholarly study, defense, and interpretation of the traditional Reformation text of Christian Scripture (i.e., the Masoretic Text of the Hebrew Old Testament and Received Text of the Greek New Testament) by providing a medium for the oral exchange and written expression of thought and research.

2024 Annual Meeting Theme:

The 2024 theme is "The Reformation Text and the Septuagint." Protestants have traditionally affirmed the Masoretic Text of the Hebrew Old Testament and the Received Text of the Greek New Testament as immediately inspired and authoritative. Modern textual criticism has suggested that the Hebrew Masoretic Text should be amended in favor of readings found in ancient versions like the Septuagint. Some have maintained that this is justified, in part, due to the fact that quotations from the Septuagint and other ancient Greek translations appear in the New Testament. Over against these recent developments, our conference will be devoted to maintaining the traditional Protestant perspective.

Conference Schedule:

The Conference will include four plenary lectures and two breakout sessions in which various short papers will be presented. For a detailed outline of the Conference schedule look here.

Call for Papers:

A Call for Papers has been issued and proposals will be received through April 30, 2024.

Membership in the Society:

You do not have to be a member of the Reformation Bible Society in order to attend the Annual Meeting.

For details on membership see the Society's Constitution which notes, "Every member must agree with the Society’s Purpose, subscribe to the Doctrinal Basis, and to at least one of the following confessions of faith: Westminster Standards, Three Forms of Unity, Second London Baptist Confession, Savoy Declaration, Formula of Concord, Thirty-Nine Articles. Annual re-affirmation is required."

Opportunity to join the Society will be made available during the Annual Meeting.

Pre-Conference Tour of the Rawlings Scriptorium at Liberty University on Friday, August 2:

Those who arrive a day early for the conference are invited to meet at the Rawlings Scriptorium (Bible Museum) on the campus of Liberty University on Friday afternoon, August 2, 2024 at 4 pm for a guided tour conducted by Scriptorium coordinator Dickson Ngama. This collection offers a valuable display of printed copies of Biblical texts and translations, including a first edition of Erasmus' Greek NT (1516), a Stephanus Greek NT (1601), a Geneva Bible (1560), and a King James Version Bible (1611).

After the tour, Conference Participants are invited to dinner (at their own cost) and conversation at a local restaurant (TBA).
