About this event

Howdy, campers! Get your s’mores and your friendship bracelets ready for LEAD Filipino’s 2024 Annual Lakbay Queer Filipinx Summit to be held on Saturday, June 22nd from 9-6PM at Evergreen Valley College!

The Annual Lakbay Queer Filipinx Summit is a day-long conference serving as a critical space in our Queer – and broader – Filipinx communities in elevating our collective consciousness around the experiences, stories, and innovation of Queer Filipinx leaders across our country. Since 2021, the Annual Lakbay Queer Filipinx Summit has been held every June during LGBTQ+ Pride Month and engaged attendees from across the Northern California region in panels, workshops, and notable keynotes.

In early 2019, Celeste Francisco and Daniel Lazo, on our organizing team, believed that LF could serve a critical space in our Queer – and broader – Filipinx communities in elevating our collective consciousness around the experiences, stories, and innovation of Queer Filipinx leaders across our country.

This year, our theme is CAMP LAKBAY: Tayo Na, Bes! Our committee is interested in the idea of taking time away from our usual environments to gather with the folks we’re in community with (dependent on, and accountable to), and how we must be proactive in taking collective action toward our shared goals. We are drawn to the campfire as a place to be vulnerable through the (ghost) stories shared, and how we as Queer Filipinas/xs/os can practice collective storytelling to remember our roots and forge a path toward our shared futures.

ABOUT LEAD FILIPINO’S LAKBAY QUEER "FILIPINX" SUMMIT:

Since 2021, LEAD Filipino’s volunteer-run and community-based Annual Lakbay Queer Filipinx Summit has celebrated queer friendship and futurity with nearly 150 LGBTQ+ Filipinas/xs/os from across the Northern California region. Held every June during LGBTQ+ Pride Month, the Annual Lakbay Queer Filipinx Summit continues to engage organizers from local government, nonprofits, and arts organizations to share their stories, experiences, and insights with students and community members from the South Bay and beyond.

The Annual Lakbay Queer Filipinx Summit highlights the interdependence of Queer Filipinas/xs/os by honoring our queer ancestors and activating participants to organize for our collective futures through TED-style talks, speaker sessions, and educational workshops. Through a coordinated network of community advocates, leaders, educators, nonprofit organizations, and strategic partners, we are now able to present our Annual Lakbay Queer Filipinx Summit for the fourth year running.

Past Annual Lakbay Queer Filipinx Summit keynote speakers include:

  • 2021 Keynote: Dr. Eufrosina Gates, founder of Thug Therapy
