2024 Public Interest Communications Summer Institute

Join us for an exciting and engaging hands-on learning experience at the Tivoli Student Union in Denver! The 2024 Public Interest Communications Summer Institute is a must-attend event for educators, researchers, grad students, practitioners and administrators who are passionate about creating university courses and forging academic research paths in this emerging academic discipline.

FORMAT: This year will be workshop-based to give you an opportunity for more conversations, questions, sharing and learning. We’re designing sessions around ideas generated by you: institute attendees. Learn about the latest research, deconstruct case studies and delve into public interest communications concepts and frameworks. Whether you’re a researcher, educator, grad student or practitioner, this institute is for you!

WHO: You! Along with educators, researchers, grad students, practitioners and administrators from around the country.

WHEN:
Tuesday, May 28: Welcome reception at 6:30 p.m.
Wednesday, May 29: Programming all day. Lunch and dinner provided.
Thursday, May 30: Programming from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. In the afternoon, we’ll offer a free half-day syllabus workshop for those who want to stay and work with experts to develop courses or add to their syllabi. If you are interested in attending the syllabus workshop, please register here.

WHERE: Tivoli Student Union, 900 Auraria Pkwy, on the Auraria campus in downtown Denver

HOW MUCH:

Grad students: $50 registration fee recommended, but pay what you can. If you need financial support for travel to the institute, please apply here.

All other attendees: $100.

** Funds may become available to defray travel costs for grad students. If you are a grad student, please complete this form to let event organizers know you are interested in this option to help you attend.**

HOTEL: We have a block of rooms at the Springhill Suites Denver Downtown, 1190 Auraria Parkway. Book your group rate ($209 a night) here. MORE INFO: Public interest communications uses research-based strategic communications for positive social change. This event is organized by the Public Interest Communications Educators Network, which is made up of academics and practitioners from around the country who want to grow the discipline and provide public interest communications courses to students. During this in-person event, you'll have the opportunity to connect with like-minded individuals and gain valuable insights into the world of public interest communications. Whether you're at the beginning of your academic journey or a longtime educator or practitioner, you'll have something tangible -- from new research to sample syllabi and class assignments-- to take back home.

Please note that the event will not be hybrid this year. We are discussing other ways to make the program accessible to those who cannot come in person.
