This class fulfills all requirements to obtain your OPOTC Private Security Firearms Certificate.

This is a 20 Hour course taking place over 2 consecutive days.

Day 1: 10 Hour Classroom from 8:00am to 7:00pm

Day 2: 10 Hours Combined Classroom and Range 8:00am to 7:00pm

Students will be taught the basic principles of Ohio CHL law and will be taught how to handle interaction with law enforcement. Instruction is provided by a Ohio Police Officers Training Commission (OPOTC) Certified Instructor with years of practical experience in carrying a firearm & in law enforcement.

PREREQUISITES:

Students must meet all eligibility guidelines put forth by the State of Ohio. See elibility requirements below.

A “yes” answer to any of questions 1 through 18 on the OPOTC Student Disclosures and Statement of Understanding, SF101unv will prohibit a Student from participating in any portion of firearms training or any classroom training that involves the handling of a firearm unless and until the OPOTC Executive Director notifies both the Student and the Commander that the potential weapons disability issue has been favorably resolved.

SUPPLY LIST:

Students must arrive prepared with the following items:

  • Photo I.D.
  • Typed (not handwritten) Enrollment form. *Fill out top section only*. Click here for document: Ohio AG Student Enrollment Form
  • Firearm - Must be a full size duty pistol (at least a 4.0" barrel) -Available to rent
  • 100 Rounds of Ammo
  • Minimum of 2 Magazines and mag pouches
  • Speed-loader for revolvers
  • Duty Belt/ Holster
  • Ear and Eye Protection
  • Ball Cap recommended 

DRESS FOR SUCCESS:

Students should follow these guidelines for maximum safety and performance on the shooting range:

  • Do wear pants with belt loops, such as jeans.
  • Do wear closed-toe shoes on the range. Shoes/boots should be laced up and tied.
  • Do wear ball caps on the range
  • Do not wear jewelry on the range
  • Do not wear tank tops or v-neck shirts on the range

PRO TIPS FOR YOUR SUCCESS:

  • Do take a basic firearms course such as FIRST SHOTS if you are new to guns (this is NOT required, but recommended)
  • Do show up on time and prepared for class.

  • Do know how to transport your firearm and ammo legally
  • Do shop early for ammunition, it can be difficult to find now
  • Do not show up without registering for class
  • Do not bring firearms or ammunition into the classroom

OPOTA RESCHEDULING POLICY

This policy applies to OPOTA 4-Hour and 20-Hour Classes

  • RESCHEDULING: While we do not offer refunds, we will be happy to reschedule your class when you provide us with at least 48 hours notice before your scheduled class begins. *Rescheduling is subject to seating availability and/or discretion of Action Defense. *Rescheduling fee of 50% of your enrollment cost will apply with less than 48 days' notice. * Limit one reschedule per ticket.
  • MISSED CLASS: Should you miss your class, (or any portion of your class) without advanced notice or are a "no-call-no-show" you will forfeit 100% of your enrollment fee. There are no refunds on enrollment fees for missed classes. A class is considered missed if notification is received on or after the date of your class.
  • LATE ARRIVALS: You must be on time to your scheduled class and to the range. The State of Ohio sets forth time requirements that need to be met by each student and by Action Defense. Classes will begin promptly at the scheduled time, students arriving late will be asked to reschedule, and will forfeit 100% of their enrollment fee. Due to state requirements, we cannot allow exceptions to this policy for any reason. We are glad to discuss this with you. *PLEASE NOTE: this includes being late from breaks and/or lunches, and applies to each day of your course.
  • COURSE FAILURE OR DISMISSAL: There are no refunds for enrollment or supply fees should the student fail the class or dismissed for any other reason. Should you decide to make a future attempts at passing by enrolling into another class, you must pay the standard cost of enrollment and supplies/ rentals (if you need them)
  • CLASS CANCELLATIONS: Action Defense reserves the right to cancel any class due to enrollment, inclement weather or any other reason. In the event of a cancellation, students will be notified by email, and options for refunds or rescheduling will be provided.
