About this event

General event information: See the FAQs below.

Our 2024 guest speaker is poet, educator, & author Nikki Giovanni.

Nikki Giovanni has written more than thirty volumes of poetry and prose, including several children’s books. Among the latter is Rosa, awarded the coveted Caldecott Medal. Her adult poetry books range from such early volumes as Black Feeling Black Talk/Black Judgement and My House to more recent ones such as Bicycles, Quilting the Black-Eyed Pea, and Make Me Rain.

Giovanni is the recipient of numerous honors and awards, including Woman of the Year Awards from both Ebony and Mademoiselle magazines; Governor’s Awards from both Tennessee and Virginia; keys to more than two dozen cities; some 31 Honorary Doctorates; and, most recently, the Ruth Lilly Poetry Prize from the Poetry Foundation. She has also recorded several award-winning spoken-word albums, among them Truth Is On Its Way and The Nikki Giovanni Poetry Collection.

As always, Girls Inc. girls will also share (hog?) the spotlight.

FAQs

How will I get any additional information about my reservation or the event itself?

We will communicate via email to the email address you provide in your reservation. Emails may come from Eventbrite (reservation & payment confirmation) and from sdunning@girlsincomaha.org (may include seating assignments or parking information). Be sure to add Eventbrite and sdunning@girlsincomaha.org to your Safe Sender list or check your Junk or Spam folders so you don't miss out on key details.

What is the difference between seating/price levels?

Patron/Priority seating is located in front of Regular/General seating. Reservations can be made in any quantity but tables are limited to 10 guests. There are corporate levels available that include a table of 10 and additional benefits - visit girlsincomaha.org to download a corporate/sponsorship form.

How can I be sure I'll sit with my friends/family with my in-person reservation?

Seats reserved via a single transaction/payment will automatically be grouped together. Other requests to sit with/near others attending under separate reservations should be filled in the space provided on the order form or sent to sdunning@girlsincomaha.org by Sept. 1, 2023 . We will try to accommodate, but cannot guarantee your request will be possible.

Can I make specific meal requests or bring in my own food to the in-person event?

The catering company offers the following meal options: a regular/standard meal; a vegan meal; a vegetarian meal; or a gluten free meal. When making your reservation, list each attendee's first & last name and meal preference or email that information to sdunning@girlsincomaha.org by Aug. 9, 2024. No other dietary requests can be accommodated.

Do I have to bring a printed ticket to the event?

No. It is a reservation only. Stop by the check-in table at the event for your table seating assignment.

Is it ok if the name on my reservation doesn't match the person who attends in-person?

Reservations are transferable to another person. If you transfer your reservation, please email the change to sdunning@girlsincomaha.org in advance. Substitutions after Aug. 9, 2024 will need to check-in under the original attendee's name.

What's the refund policy?

No refunds. If you are unable to attend or transfer the reservation to a friend, let us know and we will convert your full payment to a tax deductible donation.

What can/can't I bring into the event?
