The Annual Father’s Day Scholarship Brunch is the signature event for the Houston Morehouse Alumni Association, whose overall purpose is to increase equity and access to Higher Education for African-American Men. This is done through a robust program that showcases outstanding African-American Fathers and highlights the bond of Fatherhood that binds our ties to the Houston Community. Proceeds from this signature event will be used to provide scholarships for current and future students of Morehouse College, where annual tuition is more than $40,000 per student. The scholarships provided through the brunch will be awarded to qualified Houston area high school seniors and current Morehouse college students, to assist them with financial support to attend and thrive while at Morehouse College and beyond.
During this year’s Father’s Day Brunch, the chapter will also recognize distinguished African-American men in the Houston community in the areas of Leadership, Mentorship, and Community Service. Additionally, in front of an expected guest count of 300, we will present the coveted Distinguished Alumnus and Maroon Tiger Father of the Year Awards to those selected after a rigorous vetting process.
Since the inception of this signature event over a decade ago, the HMAA has raised more than $400,000 through scholarship specific fundraising programs and activities for deserving students in the Houston area. We look forward to continuing that trend as we reach higher with the goal of expanding our impact in the city and beyond.
