Preparation:

  • Closed-toe hiking shoes suggested or comfortable & supportive walking shoes. Fashion shoes/boots are NOT allowed. Trails can be a mixture of paved and unpaved terrain. Also, you'll need appropriate support for the distance across varying terrain.
  • Dress in multiple layers with long sleeved shirt and long pants, even during summer, to protect skin. Consider light gloves & ear covers on cool days, rain poncho/umbrella on rainy days. Yes, the event is {light} rain or shine.
  • Optional, but suggested bandana/hat/sunglasses to protect hair and eyes from falling leaves/bugs and sun. Tree-lined trails offer lots of shade and protection.
  • Back pack to carry water, snacks & desired incidentals.
  • Allow plenty of travel time to arrive promptly, 10-15 min. early. Check directions in advance and plan for traffic, trains, etc.
  • Follow "meet-up" directions. DO NOT rely on putting the name of the woods/trail in your GPS as there can be multiple entrances, unless otherwise noted.
  • There are typically outhouses along the trail, but sometimes there is a long stretch before we come upon one and their is the possibility that we will not. You'll still need to stay hydrated by drinking water. Consider wearing a depends or other protective covering.

Frequently asked questions

Can I bring children?

Yes. Children, accompanied by an adult the entire hike, are welcome to attend. Considering the length, please know how your child may fare. Strollers are also welcomed, but be cognizant of the specific trail which may make it challenging for the adult (up/down hill, rocks, gravel, etc.)

Can I bring pets?

Yes, specific to each trail. Some trails allow and some do not allow pets. Check the trail info. Also, be aware of the potential length of the hike and need to carry the pet, water, snacks, etc.

What if I can't complete the entire distance?

Attendees have the option to end the hike at any time & return to the parking lot/their car. This can be done alone or w/ a friend, if available. Some trails are linear while some are circular or zigzag. Be aware of surroundings and trail markings.

What should I wear?

Even when warm, long sleeves/plants & hair covering are recommended for protection against bugs and sun. Fashion shoes/boots are NOT allowed, only supportive athletic/walking or hiking shoes/boots recommended. During cool temps, layer up & cover ears/hands. When raining, wear raincoat or poncho

Can I bring friends or a group of people?

Yes, please be sure to share the event info. For group rates, please reach out to the event host.

Is this event ideal for beginners?

The event length is not ideal, however beginners are welcome and can turn back when ready. Our pace is not beginner, but comfortable/recreational w/ stops at various intervals to take in the full personality of the trail or to take on an adventure. Some attendees walk faster/slower than others.

What do I need to bring?

What if I paid and can't attend?

Refunds are not provided. However, you are able to shift registration to an upcoming event by notifying the event host at least 48 hrs. in advance of the event, otherwise fee is forfeited.
