About this event

  • 2 hours

Join SOMA CCW in partnership with Maplewood Division of Arts & Culture to boisterously celebrate Asian American Pacific Islander heritage month with Holi - the festival of colors.

Holi is an ancient Indian festival which celebrates Spring and New Life, victory of good over evil and above all LOVE in all its forms and expressions.

During the festival, people throw colored powder at each other and participate freely in all the resulting fun and frolic. Traditionally no one is off limits - young or old, rich or poor, man or woman or child.

Dress casual and in preferably old clothes that you would not mind acquiring a few permanent stains from the holi colors. White and light colors show off the color patterns the best.

A fixed amount of Holi colors is included in the cost of the ticket. Additional color will be available for purchase at the event for a nominal amount - payable by cash or Venmo.

Please remember to carry cash for extra color, snacks and drinks at the event.

Carry your picnic blankets and chairs and be prepared to ENJOY!!! and have a time of your life!

Frequently asked questions

What should I wear to a Holi celebration

Wear comfortable clothes and sneakers. Old clothes that you do not mind staining are best. We recommended to wear white or light colored clothes as the Holi colors show better. Plus its great for those Instagram reels.

Are the colors safe?

We provide hypoallergic colors made from corn starch. That said, as with anything that touches your skin (like cosmetics etc.) there is always a risk for allergies. So if you have a particularly sensitive skin, we recommend you test the colors before jumping into the revelry.

What is the recommended age group for participating in this celebration?

Holi festival in India is enthusiastically celebrated by one and all. Everyone joins the revelry (if they so wish and do not mind getting messy). Parents should follow their discretion for very young children.

What should I carry to the festival?

Your fun and free spirited self! But on a more practical note: reusable water bottles (lets try and be green as much as possible!), a picnic blanket, and a couple of beach towels to spread on your car seat for that ride back home.
