About this event

  • 3 days 4 hours

Chemistry will come alive for your 5th and 6th grade students through a series of dynamic chemical demonstrations.

Faculty members from Calvin University's Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, under the leadership of Professor Emeritus Larry Louters, engage students in several chemical experiments and explain the science behind the demonstrations at a level that upper elementary students understand. Our program offers a great opportunity to blend your classroom chemistry curriculum with a visual translation of these chemical concepts, leaving students with a greater understand of "how chemistry works" and a desire to learn more about the science.

All local school groups and the homeschool community are invited to attend one of eight free sessions May 6-9 , 2024.

Prior reservation is required for students and chaperones to attend a presentation. Reservations can made for up to 100 students at a time. If reserving space for multiple schools to attend the same performance, please register each school separately.

Please note: Bright flashes, loud pops and bangs are a part of the demonstration.

We are incredibly excited to offer the Chem Demos this spring at Calvin University!

We ask you to make these considerations when scheduling your class for a session:

  • Registrations are accepted through EventBrite only.
  • Because of high demand, you may experience some slow-downs from the site during the process. Have your favorite warm beverage on hand and take deep breaths. Be prepared with a first, second, and third session choice. Remember, the reward for your patience are the happy faces of your students as their minds are opened to the wonders of science with our professors.
  • Because of the high demand for this program, do not reserve more seats than you need.
  • Be sure to enter your school information when registering.
  • If you serve more than one school and plan to bring classes from different schools, please register each school individually.
  • Each registration is limited to 100 tickets. If you require more than 100 tickets, repeat the process and complete a second registration.
