About this event

  • 2 days 1 hour

Join us again this year for AMC's 2024 BIPOC Rumney Climbing Weekend! We'll be up at Barn Door Hostel for 2 nights with even more offerings this year!

With this event, we aim to provide BIPOC climbers a safe space to learn and advance their outdoor climbing and leadership skills while strengthening our community. Please note that this event is intended to be an affinity space for those who identify as Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC).

The event will take place from the evening of Friday, June 21-Sunday, June 23 with clinics, meetups, and meals in between. Please see the agenda for a detailed description of our offerings.

Sounds great, I'm in! What do I do now? The first step is to register for this event and tell us if you will be staying with us or not. If you are staying with us, BarnDoor has an indoor hostel setup with bunkbeds, or an outdoor campground for you to set up a tent.

After main registration for this event, you will receive a link where you can sign up for any clinics or meetups. Clinics will have a hard limit on the number of participants, as these are instructional clinics where we would like to maintain a low instructor to participant ratio. Those participating in clinics will also be screened and may be accepted or denied based on instructor evaluation on how ready a participant is for that clinic. Meetups will have a cap and participants are expected to be self-sufficient climbers.

What's Included: All programming including clinics and meetups are free with your registration. However, clinic registration is not guaranteed. You will get a link for clinic and meetup registration after you have registered for this event. If you choose to stay with us, you will also get either a bunk in the hostel at BarnDoor or a campsite in the upper campground at BarnDoor, depending on your ticket choice. Please note that campsites are walk-up only and require you to provide your own tent, sleeping bag, and/or anything else you might need for camping. Campers are also not allowed inside of the hostel, but outdoor port-a-potties and showers are provided outside. Dinner on Saturday evening is also provided.

What's not Included: Breakfasts and Lunches are not provided, and you will need to bring your own. Water refills are available at BarnDoor but you must supply your own for the day, as well as a bottle. You will also need any overnight equipment and personal toiletries, as well as your own personal climbing gear. Bring whatever you have, and if you don't have specific pieces of gear, let us know in your registration.

Frequently asked questions

What if I haven't climbed outdoors before?

No problem, our goal is to make this event as accessible as possible! We will have intro to bouldering and top roping clinics on Saturday aimed at beginners.

I would like to attend but the registration cost poses a barrier for me. Are there options?

We try to keep costs as low and accessible as possible, but understand that there are a lot of costs involved in outdoor climbing. If the registration fee is prohibitive in any way, please email adelineshin2015@gmail.com and we can provide either a partial or full scholarship.

Can I bring a friend?

Yes, all are welcome if they identify as BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color), as this event is an affinity space. If you have any questions on what this means, there are great resources online, and you can always email adelineshin2015@gmail.com if you have further questions.

Can I bring my dog?

Sorry, we love dogs but they are not allowed at this event.

Where do I register for clinics?

You will be provided a separate eventbrite link to register for clinics after you have registered for the main event. This is in an effort to make sure clinic spots are only being taken by those who intend on coming to the event and that everyone has registered for the main event as well.

What do I need for the weekend?

You will need to provide your own breakfasts, lunches, and water. In terms of climbing gear, bring what you have! Most climbers will need shoes, a harness, and helmet, and ropes/quickdraws/belay devices if you have those. If you are missing anything, let us know in your registration form.

What if I don't have all the needed gear?

No problem, in the registration form, you can let us know what you are missing and we will loan out gear for the day.

What are the lodging accommodations like?

Indoor bunks are in a shared room with other participants and volunteers and have access to indoor bathrooms. Outdoor campsites are walk-up only and you will need to provide a tent + sleeping bag, and you will have access to outdoor portapotties and showers. More details at barndoorhostel.com

Is this event refundable?

This event is nonrefundable. We expect high demand and attendance for this event, and want to make sure that those who register are actually able to attend. If you are unable to attend, please let us know ASAP so that we may let someone in from the waitlist.

What if I have other questions?

Feel free to email adelineshin2015@gmail.com with any questions you may have
