The Greater Miami Youth Symphony is a non profit organization that mentors nearly 1000 students in year-round programs. GMYS is served by a full-time Music Director, Huifang Chen, as well as other administrative and artistic support. GMYS offers students opportunities in four orchestras, two concert bands, two jazz bands, multiple chamber ensembles, and fourteen beginning preparatory classes. Orchestras, bands, and chamber ensembles perform about two large gala concerts each year, as well as numerous outreach programs at local libraries, parks, museums, senior centers, and  centers. Students participate in a yearly concerto competition and receive master classes with diverse guest artists from all over the world as well as University of  and Florida International University music faculty.

The     is funded in part by the Children's Trust. The Trust is a dedicated source of revenue established by voter referendum to improve the lives of children and families in -Dade County. GMYS is also supported in part by the -Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs and Cultural Affairs Council, the -Dade County Mayor and the Board of County Commissioners, the City of  Beach, Cultural Affairs Program, and Cultural Arts Council, the State of Florida, Department of State, Division of Cultural Affairs and the Florida Council on Arts and Culture, The  Foundation, and the National Endowment for the Arts.
