About this event

Young and Strong, the Program for Young Adults with Breast Cancer is pleased to host our annual virtual forum series. The series, best suited for anyone diagnosed with breast cancer under the age of 45, includes a variety of events for young adults with breast cancer and is designed to help you learn and connect with breast cancer experts and with your peers. Please review our schedule of events below.

Each event has something unique to offer. Our hope is that you'll join us for all five events, but we understand that you may not be available for every one.

Facilitated by Ann Partridge, MD, MPH, founder and director of The Young and Strong Program for Young Adults with Breast Cancer, a panel of experts will share recent advances in the field of breast cancer and provide treatment advice.

Keynote Address with Samantha Watson, MBA: Owning Your Story (The One You Never Asked For)

Mix up an Apple Cider Mule (with or without the alcohol!) or another fall-themed beverage or snack and join keynote speaker Samantha Watson, MBA, a nationally recognized thought leader in the fields of young adult cancer and financial toxicity, as she discusses how she has handled the many obstacles and challenges of dealing with a cancer diagnosis at a young age. Samantha is a two-time cancer survivor, diagnosed with Ewing sarcoma at age 21 and secondary myelodysplastic syndrome at age 23.

From patient to patient advocate, she has served the young adult cancer community for almost two decades. Samantha is the founder of The Samfund, a nonprofit organization designed to support young adults in their financial recovery from cancer, which is now a program within Expect Miracles Foundation.

Meet the Experts: Focus on Wellness and Symptom Management

Join us for an evening panel with Dana-Farber wellness experts, facilitated by Philip Poorvu, MD, associate director of the Young and Strong Program for Young Adults with Breast Cancer. This is a great opportunity to learn more about various topics, including exercise, nutrition, menopausal symptom management, and lymphedema. 'Is This Trauma?' Understanding and Coping With the Trauma of a Cancer Diagnosis

Thursday, October 20, 2022 | 6 - 7:30 p.m. ET

References to trauma are everywhere. In this interactive discussion with Dana-Farber’s social workers, we’ll consider the question, “what is trauma?” and talk about how a cancer diagnosis may challenge your coping tools.

Mix yourself a Hot Toddy (with our without the alcohol!) or another comforting drink, and join us to connect and learn from our social workers and your peers about how to support and grow your emotional resilience in the face of cancer-related trauma and many other life stressors.

Signature Cocktail/Mocktail: Hot Toddy

  • 7 ounces hot tea (black or green tea)
  • 1.5 ounces brandy, whiskey, or rum (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
