2021 Overdose Hackathon

The Center of Biomedical Research Excellence (COBREs) on Opioids and Overdose, based at the Rhode Island Hospital, is the first center of its kind aimed to collaboratively address the opioid epidemic. This COBRE is a vibrant, interdisciplinary center that supports research essential to understanding the mechanisms underlying opioid use disorder and developing innovative solutions. A main objective of the NIH-Funded COBRE initiative is to support the develop junior investigators into independently funded investigators, and to develop a critical mass of investigators competitive for peer-reviewed external research funding. The COBRE on Opioids and Overdose brings together an exceptional group of accomplished senior scientists, promising junior investigators, and distinguished collaborators, as well as policymakers, public health officials, community-based organizations dedicated to developing policies and practices to curb the opioid epidemic that is destroying the lives of so many of our community members.This event is supported by the COBRE on Opioids and Overdose funded by the National Institute of General Medical Sciences of the NIH under grant number P20GM125507. Innovate to stop overdose! The 2021 COBRE Overdose Hackathon seeks innovators to create solutions to help address preventable drug overdose.

We would like to invite you to participate in theVirtual <a href="https://opioidcobre.org/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">COBRE </a>Overdose Hackathon to be held on Friday, October 15th through Sunday, October 17th, 2021 with a kick-off event that can be joined virtually on the platform <a href="https://www.airmeet.com/e/6ddfa420-fc6d-11eb-9df0-af24789934a3" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Airmeet </a>or in-person at <a href="https://districthallprovidence.org/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">District Hall in Providence </a>from 4-8 pm (Located at 225 Dyer Street). Virtual networking and matchmaking opportunities will be made available throughout the event, and a series of amazing speakers will share community, healthcare, and policy innovations related to the overdose problem. The top three teams will receive $400 per person and next-step seed funding of up to $40,000 is available. 396 Rhode Islanders lost their lives to drug overdose in 2020. We seek creative solutions focused on addressing this preventable health problem in the state of Rhode Island. •	Hacking is creative problem-solving.
