The NM Progressive Summit is for anyone with an interest in progressive politics—bloggers, organizers, social justice advocates, union workers, organizational leaders, college organizers and activists from across New Mexico.

This day of action isn’t about building up ProgressNow - we’re building progressive capacity to support our newly elected progressive champions (and a few older ones!) and our progressive allies working on issues statewide!
What are we doing?:  A whole lot of progressive voters are coming together to hear pitches from legislators and community leaders on proposals for the legislative session (and beyond!) to enact a progressive agenda for New Mexico. Take actions to sign on as a citizen co-sponsor, join a rapid-response team or support a progressive champion working to enact her agenda.
What are we talking about?: We have a full day of issue breakouts, organizing skills workshops and face-to-face conversations with candidates and electeds to build a progressive agenda for NM.

<LI>Criminal Justice Reform: New models for public police oversight and community policing strategies that work.  [Led by Strong Families NM]</LI>

<LI>“The Art of the Deal”: Ok, not that deal.  The highly engaging and visible group We Are This City will be hosting a panel dealing with how artists are acting and organizing through artistic means.</LI>

<LI>This is not ok: Anti-abortion activists are building new momentum for state-based attacks on abortion rights and New Mexico is at the center of that battle. Young Women United and Planned Parenthood team up to share the history of state-based bills against abortion in New Mexico and how a new attacks from Congressional Republicans impact New Mexico’s abortion rights.</LI>

<LI>And of course, your friends here at ProgressNow NM will be present to talk about all things social media - how to make it work for you, and your cause!</LI>

<LI>Renewable Energy: 350.org, CVNM, Sierra Club, and Environment New Mexico have a plan to make New Mexico’s energy system 100% renewable. They’ll pitch on a proposal to raise the state’s renewable energy standard and divest from fossil fuels for good.</LI>

<LI>Quit talking about them and talk to them: Leaders of New Mexico’s Young Democrats and millennial veterans of campaigns talk about why millennials don’t vote and what they are doing in New Mexico to change that.  Want to know how to expand your message into the millennial generation? Come and ask!</LI>

<LI>Grow New Mexico, Legalize Marijuana: The Drug Policy Alliance will approach the the fact that, New Mexico is faced with extreme budget shortfalls. There are responsible solutions to these problems. Legalizing marijuana is a path to prosperity for New Mexico.Legalizing marijuana for adult use is an opportunity to grow New Mexico, keeping us true to our values and the things we care most about: the wellbeing of our children, community health, and the future of our state.
