2017 Behavioral Heath Practice Update

This program is a collaboration between the Southeast Health District and Magnolia Coastlands AHEC.

This program provides practice updates on selected topics designed to benefit interdisciplinary behavioral health providers. The program highlights expert speakers from nursing, medicine, counseling, social work, and education.
Program attendees will: • Explore the latest developments in addressing behavioral health care needs • Discuss ethical issues relevant to a variety of clinical topics 
Registration Fees:
The cost to attend the program is $20 and includes Coffee/Tea/Water and lunch (lunch not garenteed if you register after 2/17/17).  If you are requesting CE credit, there is an additional $10 fee that you will add on at checkout.  
CE Statements:
NURSING - The Georgia Board of Nursing deems Magnolia Coastlands Area Health Education Center as an acceptable provider for continuing education (CE). This activity is approved for 6 CE hours toward the continuing competency requirements for Georgia licensure renewal. Nurses should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation. 
CME - This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the Essential Areas and policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education through the joint providership of The Memorial Health University Medical Center and Georgia Southern UniversitySchool of Nursing, Magnolia Coastlands AHEC, Pineland BHDD, and Georgia Regional Hospital: Savannah. The Memorial Health University Medical Center is accredited by the Medical Association of Georgia to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

Emerging Ethical Issues in Behavioral Health Mary Ann Beil, Memorial Health
Participants will: • Be acquainted with key issues in Behavioral Health • Review the framework for navigating ethical issues • Review tools for conflict Resolution
Early Identification, Assessment, and Treatment of Eating Disorders Julie Holland Faylor, MHS, CEDS, Fiaedp, Eating Recovery Center
Participants will: • Identify early symptoms of anorexia, bulimia, binge eating disorder, and associated disorders • Assess where individual is in recovery process • Understand treatment modalities and levels of care
Recognizing and Treating Substance Use and Co-Occurring Disorders Dianne Diver, LCSW, CAC II, Recovery Place, Inc.
Participants will: • Learn the signs and symptoms of substance use disorders and common co-occurring disorders • Learn DSM-5 criteria for substance use disorders and most common co-occurring disorders • Learn about treatment options for the acute and maintenance treatment of individuals with substance use and co-occurring disorders including eating disorders, pain management, and bi-polar
Motivation and Its Role in Mitigating Psychiatric Health Issues Antonio P. Gutierrez de Blume, Ph.D., Georgia Southern University
Participants will: • Have a deeper understanding of various motivational theories to inform their practice • Have a deeper understanding of how motivation can improve their application of motivational interviewing among psychiatric patients
Trauma Informed Care Michelle Meadows, LPC, NCC, Pineland BHDD
Participants will: • Discuss the feelings of trauma and define trauma • Understand core principles of Trauma Informed Approach • Discuss coping and best practices of Trauma Informed Models
Using Injectables in Psychiatric Practice Edward G. Pellicano, PsyD., M.D., American Works, Inc.
Participants will: • Discuss history and current practice use of injectables in psychiatric practice • Understand pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics of injectables and why they work • Describe recent drugs approved for injectable use and implications for prescribing and clinical patient management
