LAST DAYS OF EMPIRE: The Habsburg Legacy, One Glass at a Time
Empires rise, empires fall, but the wine keeps flowing! Explore the Habsburg legacy through 6 wines, shifting borders, & imperial intrigue.
The Habsburg Legacy, One Glass at a Time
One empire. A dozen languages. A few centuries of family drama. And an awful lot of wine.
For centuries, the Habsburgs presided over one of Europe's most sprawling and complicated collections of kingdoms, cultures, and peoples. There were emperors! Revolutions! Magnificent palaces! Questionable political decisions! And enough family intrigue to make your head spin.
And somewhere in the middle of all this, people were making some pretty remarkable wine.
This November, Camp Vini is taking you on a grand tour of a vanished empire, from the vineyards of Austria and Hungary to the mountains, valleys, and Adriatic shores of Central and Southeastern Europe.
Along the way, we'll follow the grapes, the people, and the politics to discover how centuries of trade, migration, cultural exchange, and imperial ambition shaped the wines we drink today.
Was this vast empire holding a diverse world together, or holding its people back? What happens when one empire becomes a patchwork of nations? And who gets to claim a grape as their own?
Spoiler alert: It's complicated. Deliciously complicated.
Join your Camp Vini counselors for six thoughtfully selected wines, delicious accompanying snacks and bites, a little historical intrigue, and plenty of lively conversation. We'll explore the remarkable traditions that endured, the identities that evolved, and the unexpected connections that survived long after the empire's final curtain.
No history degree required. No royal pedigree necessary. And absolutely no wine snobbery permitted.
The empire is gone. The stories are still being told. And the wine? That's very much alive.
