Ayesha Amos presents - The Taste of Healing
Exploring Traditional Herbal Wisdom and Modern Science
As the scientific evidence base for herbal medicine continues to grow, our understanding of herbs may become more mechanistic and fragmented. In this presentation, we will revisit a holistic framework for understanding our herbs.
We will examine concepts such as energetics, affinities, remedy pictures, and the importance of viewing plants as complex living medicines rather than simply collections of isolated constituents. We will then focus on one of the less commonly explored areas: taste.
For thousands of years, taste has been used as a means for understanding the qualities, actions, and therapeutic potential of foods and medicinal plants. Across traditions such as Western Herbal Medicine, Ayurveda, and Traditional Chinese Medicine, taste has provided a lens through which practitioners can assess energetics, predict therapeutic effects, and select appropriate remedies.
This presentation will explore traditional knowledge and contemporary evidence, demonstrating how taste can serve as an additional lens through which to understand and apply medicinal plants in clinical practice.
