Step out and up with Greenbelt Alliance on an urban saunter to iconic Coit Tower
Our stroll begins at the Ferry Building and leads to Coit Tower on scenic paths and stairways. Built in 1932 and 1933 in art deco architectural style, Coit Tower is on the National Registry of Historic Places.
We'll view murals inside the tower's base painted by artists employed by the Public Works of Art Project during the depression. The murals, in the American social realism style, depict various aspects of American life. Some of the artwork has sparked controversy over the years. See them and judge for yourself.
