This ain't your daddy's Cabernet.
We all know what to expect from California wine, right? Hulking Cabernet, heavily oaked Chardonnay, Pinot Noir that smells like a spice cabinet. Beloved by some, derided by others, California wines get short shift with the natural wine lovers among us.
But is it fair? As with anything, reductionism has its limits, and it's usually limiting our understanding—and in this case, our enjoyment.
In this class, we'll be venturing beyond Napa and Sonoma and heading for the hills (or, rather, the mountains). With wine pro Matt Rose as our guide, we'll explore the Santa Cruz Mountains as the unsung hero of California terroir, tasting through a full range of grapes and styles from Madson Wines—one of the most exciting estates in CA right now, and one whose wines rarely make it to this coast.
No Napa extraction here—think pine trees, altitude, and finesse. This is a rare opportunity to experience something truly different when it comes to California wine, and we're excited to welcome Matt to the shop for an evening of expanding minds and palates.
This is a one-hour class hosted at Wild Child (30 Bow St, Somerville). Class includes 4 tasting pours.
