Casa IED presents Jail Time Records Film Screening
With the participation of founders and directors: Dione Roach and Steve Happi
Join us at Casa IED New York for a special screening of the critically acclaimed 2026 documentary feature, Jail Time Records. This event is presented as a vital chapter of our ongoing Plural Intelligences series, which explores diverse systems of knowledge, expression, and social impact through design.
Directed by Dione Roach and Steve Happi, and executive produced by Taika Waititi and Rita Orathe, the film profiles Africa’s first prison recording studio, located deep inside the severely overcrowded New Bell Prison in Douala, Cameroon. Built for 800 inmates but currently housing nearly 6,000, the prison serves as a volatile backdrop for an extraordinary artistic movement.
Fresh off its major wins at the 2026 Tribeca Festival (including Best Documentary Feature and the Albert Maysles Award for Best New Documentary Director), this 90-minute film offers a profound look at how creativity flourishes under the most severe constraints.
Following the screening, stay with us for a Q&A session with Dione and Steve.
Tuesday, Nov 3. Doors open at 6:30 pm. Film starts at 7:00 pm.
Jail Time Records is a non-profit music label born in New Bell Central Prison in Douala, Cameroon in 2018.
