About the Seminar

Are central banks truly neutral institutions, or are they deeply involved in political and economic struggles?

For decades, central banks have often been viewed as technocratic institutions focused on maintaining price stability. However, global challenges such as supply shocks, ecological crises, and geopolitical tensions are reshaping their roles.

Drawing on examples from Latin America, East Asia, and Central Europe, this seminar explores how central banks actively shape financial systems, respond to economic vulnerabilities, and navigate political pressures. From supporting pension funds and developing green bond markets to influencing credit allocation and establishing new liquidity arrangements, the talk highlights how central banking is closely intertwined with state power and political interests.
