Forms of Return: Dance, Poetry, and Public Art Along the Trail
Site-responsive dance connects Joy Harjo’s An American Sunrise with Cenotaphs and Ghost Harps through memory, return, land, and water.
Join Dance Waterloo, in partnership with The Trail Conservancy, for a site-responsive dance performance along the Lady Bird Lake Hike & Bike Trail. Inspired by Joy Harjo’s An American Sunrise, this performance brings poetry into conversation with Cenotaphs and Ghost Harps through movement exploring return, transformation, memory, and our ongoing relationships with land and water. Audiences will experience the performance as a standing and walking tour, moving between viewing locations along the Trail. Discover how dance can invite us to notice familiar places differently and reflect on the stories held within a landscape. No prior familiarity with dance, poetry, or the book is needed.
This performance is part of Dance Waterloo’s An American Sunrise: A Season of Embodied Return, a yearlong NEA Big Read project.
