Autumn at Bellevue Pond

Autumn at Bellevue Pond

Overview

Please join Boot for an autumn walk around Bellevue Pond to explore nature in late autumn.

Leader: Boot Boutwell

Pace: Slow

Difficulty: Moderate, with some rocky inclines with uneven surfaces.

Appropriate for: All. Children ages 10+ welcome if accompanied by an adult.

About Boot: Roland “Boot” Boutwell, a freelance itinerant naturalist, has been leading nature walks for the Friends of the Fells for over 25 years. He has also led walks and/or taught botany programs for a number of other organizations including The Trustees of Reservations, Arlington Community Education, The Massachusetts Association of Conservation Commissions, Winchester public schools, Wright-Locke Farm in Winchester, The New England Wild Flower Society and the Massachusetts Audubon Society.

About the walk: Meet at the Bellevue Pond parking lot, South Border Rd (opposite #70) in Medford. We will take a walk in the area of Bellevue Pond enjoying the beauty of Nature in late autumn. We will focus on the identification of woody plants without their leaves. We’ll also look for winter weeds, those hardy herbaceous (non-woody) plants whose skeletons decorate the autumn and winter land-scape. The walk will focus on plant ID as well as fun and interesting natural history, and as always there will be a few poems and readings. Meet at the Bellevue Pond parking lot on South Border Rd (opposite #70) in Medford. Steady rain cancels.

Arrive early, parking may be tight.

Steady rain postpones.

**Please do not register unless you can absolutely attend this walk. We often have waitlists and would like as many folks as possible to be able to attend.**

Contact: For information, call Boot Boutwell at 781-729-4712 for questions or concerns.

Dogs: This program is not suitable for our furry friends (it's a moderate hike with uneven terrain). Please take a look at our calendar for other walks that are good for dogs to join!
