IMPROV 100: Say Yes! (Intro to Improv), Sundays, Winter '27

Overview

Say yes! Learn to listen, connect, play and use your own life to create stories with others! An 8 week intro to improvised theatre.

Discover Unexpected Productions' philosophy of improvisation, developed over our 43 years of improvising in Seattle!

You'll learn how to actively listen, to use your own life to create collaborative stories, and you'll work on the fundamental principles of improvisation: what it means to say, "Yes, And", how to tell stories that include everyone in the room, how to stop worrying about failing, and the games and concepts behind what we do on stages around the world!

Under the guidance of one of our best Seattle improv teachers, you will learn to:·

  • Be a Better Listener
  • Conquer Fears
  • Spark Creativity
  • Meet New People & Make New Friends

About the Teacher:

Shannon Bass Shannon’s relationship to improv could be described as obsessive: She teaches the foundational Improv 100 for Unexpected Productions, where she also helps manage UP's open-mic Duos, co-leads the company's Playground drop-in class, and coaches high school students for UP's annual Hogan Cup!

Shannon grew up as a Theatre Kid in Northern California and started improvising in 2010 while attending Humboldt State University, mostly out of "my friends are doing it" FOMO. Shannon is a graduate of the Unexpected Productions' Improv School, completing the program while simultaneously watching as many shows as humanly possible. She officially joined UP as ensemble 2021. You may have also seen her performing in festivals as the co-creator of Closer to Clarity and Fat Cats!

Shannon believes that improv is for everyone and that everything you know, feel, and have been through in your life makes *YOU* especially perfect for improv. She’s already proud of you.
