Join Young China Watchers for an interactive conversation with veteran journalist and scholar Xiangwei Wang on the outlook for U.S.-China relations. As Washington and Beijing navigate a period of relative calm, does the easing of tensions offer a foundation for lasting stability—or a temporary pause before renewed competition?

Drawing on decades of reporting on Chinese politics and international affairs, Wang will explore the forces shaping the relationship and the prospects for cooperation amid strategic rivalry. The conversation will cover:

- Shared global challenges: Opportunities to work together on climate change, nuclear non-proliferation, and pandemic preparedness.

- Bilateral ties and flashpoints: The outlook for trade and investment, cross-border law enforcement, people-to-people exchanges, and managing tensions over Taiwan.

About the Speaker

Xiangwei Wang is an Asia Programs Fellow at the Ash Center at Harvard Kennedy School for the 2026–27 academic year, researching U.S.-China relations. He served as Editor-in-Chief of the South China Morning Post from 2012 to 2016 during a 26-year career at the newspaper and continues to contribute commentary to the SCMP and other international media outlets. Before joining Harvard, he was an Associate Professor of Practice in the Department of Journalism at Hong Kong Baptist University.
