The Body in Pieces – Group show | Opening at EM Studio Gallery
Free opening of The Body in Pieces, a group show curated by Gabriëlle Nederend. Exhibition 30 Oct – 8 Nov 2026, Amsterdam.
Join us for the opening of THE BODY IN PIECES, a group show with an artist dinner and talk, curated by Gabriëlle Nederend. The body in pieces: fragmented, beheaded and amputated, cut into planes and rearranged, framed, a snapshot, a sacrifice or merely suggested. The starting point is art historian Linda Nochlin's study "The Body in Pieces: The Fragment as a Metaphor of Modernity" (1994), which shows how the fragmented body became a defining feature of modern art, from guillotine cartoons of the French Revolution, Géricault and the Impressionists to Van Gogh's ear. In our own chaotic times the idea has lost none of its meaning. Like a Kunstkammer, the exhibition brings together glass, wood, textile, paper, paint, moving image and performance, with works from the curator's collection, artists of art centre Meneer de Wit and beyond. With works and texts by Bruno Alleos, Marloes Bomers, Gertjan Evenhuis, Tara Fallaux, Kees Fens, Michel François, Klaas Kloosterboer and Carla Rump. Exhibition: 30 October – 8 November 2026 Opening: Saturday 31 October, 16:00–19:00 EM Studio Gallery, Witte de Withstraat 2, 1057 XV Amsterdam During exhibitions: Saturday 12:00–20:00, Sunday 12:00–17:00 Free entry – everyone is welcome. www.emstudiogallery.com
