CAMH Cinema Club | Hale County This Morning, This Evening
Join CAMH for the latest screening in the CAMH Cinema Club series with the Academy-Award nominated Hale County This Morning, This Evening.
Join Contemporary Arts Museum Houston (CAMH) for the latest screening in the CAMH Cinema Club series with the Academy-Award nominated documentary Hale County This Morning, This Evening on Thursday, November 5, 2026. Directed by RaMell Ross, whose photography was part of The Dirty South: Contemporary Art, Material Culture, and the Sonic Impulse at CAMH in 2021, Hale County follows Daniel Collins and Quincy Bryant, two young Black men from rural Hale County, Alabama, over the course of five years. The mundane and monumental, the quotidian and the sublime, are given equal weight as instances are poetically woven together to tell the story of a place in time. These moments combine to communicate the region’s deep culture and provide glimpses of the complex ways the African American community’s collective image is integrated into America’s visual imagination.
In dialogue with the exhibition Divination: Beverly Buchanan & Dionne Lee, which brings together two artists whose practices engage with the American landscape and its embedded histories, Ross’s film similarly approaches land as a site of embodied knowledge, revealing narratives that often elude conventional forms of representation.
Doors open at 6PM and the film begins at 6:30PM. This event is first come, first serve with limited seating available. RSVPs are highly encouraged but do not guarantee a spot.
