Its Golden Era during the 1940s and 1950s established many of the classic songs and dances enjoyed today, including the Peruvian vals, marinera, tondero, polca criolla, and Afro-Peruvian festejo and landó. Icons of the genre include Felipe Pinglo Alva (the grandfather of the Vals Peruano), Los Embajadores Criollos, Los Morochucos, Chabuca Granda, Lucha Reyes, Lucila Campos, Óscar Avilés, Arturo “Zambo” Cavero, and Eva Ayllón.
