Sc.Art (Science & Art, pronounced /skɑːt/) presents a singular musical journey: electronic instruments, processed bass guitar, electronic drums, and sound samples of cosmic origin.
The programme draws on recordings from NASA and the University of Iowa – among them the sounds of electrons colliding in the Earth’s atmosphere and signals captured by space probes in the vicinity of celestial bodies.
The ensemble transforms these sounds from outer space into rhythm, melody, and timbre, using them as a compositional foundation. This sonic material is blended with a broad spectrum of timbres developed by György Kurtag Jr. through his work as a sound designer, alongside processed electronic bass guitar and drum-triggered samples.
With:
- György Kurtág Jr. – contemporary composer and sound designer; keyboards
- András Márton – electronic drums
- Miklós Lengyelfi – bass guitar
András Márton and Miklós Lengyelfi are members of KFT, one of the defining bands of the Hungarian new wave – widely regarded as one of the most significant Hungarian rock groups of the 1980s and 1990s.
The recording received the Award for Best Hungarian Contemporary Classical Album of the Year at the Hungarian Music Awards in 2010 – the most prestigious professional music prize in Hungary.
