Sea Turtle Conservation with Maxine Montello
Join SOFO for a presentation by Maxine Montello, Director of the New York Marine Rescue Center, about sea turtle conservation.
Maxine Montello, Executive Director of the New York Marine Rescue Center (NYMRC), will discuss the challenges facing sea turtles in New York waters, including cold-stunning, vessel strikes, and entanglement. The presentation will highlight NYMRC’s work rehabilitating stranded and injured sea turtles, as well as ongoing research efforts to better understand their health, ecology, and conservation needs.
Maxine will also share findings from NYMRC’s research efforts, using satellite telemetry to track rehabilitated sea turtles after release and examine their movements and cameras to understand behavior within New York waters. These efforts are helping to build a better understanding of where sea turtles go, how they use New York’s coastal waters, and what happens after rehabilitation, providing important information for the conservation of these critical species.
This FREE program is for adults and children ages 8+. Advanced reservations are required for all events.
