Interpreting the Past: Indigenous Peoples of Connecticut

Interpreting the Past: Indigenous Peoples of Connecticut

Overview

Join Jonathan Craig, Executive Director Emeritus of the Talcott Mountain Science Center, as he shares some of his local discoveries.

Finding a flint spear tip in the vegetable garden as a young boy sparked an interest that has lasted a lifetime. Explore the history and prehistory of Native American peoples through the interpretations of artifacts and the stories handed down through generations. Our New England heritage and even our form of government was largely influenced by our interactions with the indigenous tribes. Today we still use names of towns, landmarks, rivers and lakes that pay homage to those who came before us. Jonathan Craig has worked with native people, archaeologists and anthropologists over the years who have shared their knowledge and expertise to infer the life styles and ways of the past.
