Lech Wałęsa: What Changes for America and Europe After the Midterms?
Lech Wałęsa: President of Poland, Nobel Peace Prize Laureate
Lech Wałęsa returns to Senate Square Society for a discussion on what the U.S. midterm elections could mean for America, Europe, Ukraine, and Russia. Poland’s former president, Nobel Peace Prize laureate, and historic Solidarity leader will explore the opportunities, and obstacles, for transatlantic cooperation following the vote.
What could change in Washington’s support for Ukraine and its approach to Russia? Where can America and Europe find common ground, and where must Europe take greater responsibility for its own security? The conversation will examine whether the election results create openings for stronger cooperation on military assistance, sanctions, and a lasting peace that protects Ukraine’s sovereignty.
Drawing on his experience confronting Soviet-backed authoritarianism and helping lead Poland’s democratic transformation, Wałęsa will consider how democratic allies can turn shared commitments into action, and what political leadership and solidarity demand at this moment.
At each of our events you can expect a warm atmosphere, an ability to network as well as complimentary refreshments.
