🧠 Lecture: "When Myth Becomes History: The Search for the Minotaur"
🎙️ Speaker: Dr. Caroline Malloy
What if you could prove a myth was, in fact, real?
Join historian Dr. Caroline Malloy as she uncovers what happened when one overly enthusiastic archaeologist set out to prove the legendary Minotaur truly existed on the Greek island of Crete in the early twentieth century.
Spoiler: the half man, half bull monster isn’t real—but that didn’t stop Sir Arthur Evans. The story behind the myth and the story behind the man twist together in surprising ways that reshape how we talk about the ancient past. There’s scandal, gods and goddesses, monkeys, even Vogue Magazine—and at the center of it all, the spectacular Minoan palace of Knossos, where visitors today can still see every last, fabulous detail of Evans’s grand vision.
Dr. Caroline Malloy is a Chicago-based historian and nonfiction book editor. After more than a decade in academia, she traded the university classroom for the public stage and now travels the world as a Resident Historian with Viking Ocean cruises, engaging audiences at the intersection of heritage, preservation, and national identity.
