🧠 Lecture: "The Odyssey and the Avengers: Heroes and Moral Philosophy"

🎤 Speaker: PhD Candidate Kevin Howery

Join us for a thought-provoking evening as moral philosopher Kevin Howery explores what it truly means to be a hero. Moving between the world of Ancient Greece and today’s cinematic universes—and situated between the releases of Nolan’s Odyssey and Avengers: Doomsday—Kevin will examine how our stories of heroes shape the way we think about morality, courage, and justice.

Drawing on Homer’s Odyssey alongside modern superheroes, he will unpack questions such as: What makes a hero admirable? Are heroic virtues timeless, or do they change with culture and technology? And what responsibilities do heroes have to the societies that celebrate them?

Kevin Howery (M.A.) is a PhD candidate at the University of Cologne, specializing in Ancient Greek and early modern German philosophy, particularly the works of Plato and Immanuel Kant.
