Visible Mending & Darning Workshop for Beginners

Did moths have a feast in your favorite sweater? Have your wool socks seen one too many adventures? Don't despair. It might be the beginning of a new story. Let's turn those holes into wearable art!

In this beginner-friendly online workshop, you'll discover the art of visible darning, a practical and creative way to repair garments that have worn thin, developed holes, or fallen prey to the dreaded closet moth. Using woven darning techniques, you'll learn to rebuild structure around damaged areas, turning a frustrating hole into an opportunity for creative expression.

No sewing experience? No problem. We'll start with the basics, do a practice patch together, and work through the technique step by step. You'll learn at a comfortable pace, with plenty of opportunities to ask questions and get individual guidance.What you'll learn:

• Stabilizing fabric before mending
• Choosing the right yarn
• The basics of woven darning
• Bonus: end sewing without knots

And because mending doesn't have to mean making damage disappear, we'll embrace the beauty of visible repairs. Your stitches can become part of your garment's story. Wear them like a badge of honor!

You will have access to tools and materials during the workshop, such as darning needles, yarn, and scrap fabric.

What you'll need

If you're a complete beginner, feel free to bring something like an old sweater, scarf, or T-shirt to practice on. you'll be glad you practiced on something low-stakes before tackling your precious cashmere sweater or a garment full of memories! You're welcome to bring a garment you'd like to eventually repair. I'll give you individual advice on how to approach the damage and guide you through the techniques you can use to continue the repair yourself after the workshop.
