Film screening and art sales, all proceeds go toward displaced women and youth in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
As Congo🇨🇩Week begins on the 19th October we would like to invite you to join us for a fundraiser film screening of Thierry Michel’s Documentary ‘The Empire of Silence’.
This screening is to raise awareness of the genocide and pillage of natural resources that has been happening in DRC since the early 90s and continues today, fueled by Rwanda backed militias such as M23. Minerals that are heavily sought after, such as coltan and cobalt are present in all of our phones 📱and electronics, heavily linked to Apple and Tesla.
This documentary gives a background on Congo’s history of exploitation, from colonial rule through to the wars and resource extraction that shape the country today and affect its people. Congo and Africa are just as important as any other place that is being uplifted at this time.
All proceeds go to Bel Avenir, a network of Congolese youth supporting displaced and vulnerable children and women affected by war and to Justin Shukuru Mulindwa, activist, poet and cofounder of Bel Avenir who is internally displaced within the DRC.
Art will be available for purchase on the day.
