Volunteer Workshop: Making the Most of Virtual Tutoring

Growing a rewarding relationship and building up your student's confidence is completely possible (and fun!) with virtual tutoring. It can be transformative for a student who couldn't otherwise get transportation to an in-person tutoring program.

Join us in learning some virtual tutoring strategies from Miranda Mlilo, program coordinator and founder of the Tutoring and Youth Enrichment Program at Serve Your City / Ward 6 Mutual Aid (SYC/W6MA).

SYC/W6MA provides free virtual tutoring to students across DC, Maryland, and Virginia, thanks to the dedication of hundreds of college students and working professionals who volunteer. These volunteers provide essential academic support to families and children in our communities. Each student is paired with two tutors to assist with subjects like math, reading, Spanish, science, and history—or any other areas where they need help.

The DC Tutoring & Mentoring Initiative is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that connects community members with over 50 tutoring and mentoring programs across the DC Metro Area. These community members become volunteers, supporting youth of all ages and backgrounds for an average of 1-2 hours per week.

We need hundreds of volunteers TODAY to support the youth in DC. You tell us when you're available, what age group you'd like to work with, and whether you want to mentor or tutor, and we'll do our best to find an easy way for YOU to get involved!

You do NOT need a college degree -- just a good heart and a willingness to be a reliable, caring adult in a student's life.

We have opportunities in the mornings, afternoons, evenings, and on weekends! Volunteers can help in a traditional tutoring environment or more flexible mentoring programs.

Got questions? Email or text us at info@dcTutorMentor.org or 202-688-1261.

We can't wait to see you there!
