Glue Stick Social: Junk Journaling by the Glow of a Creepy Picture Show
Free weekly junk journaling night in a century-old West Oakland church, with a creepy old film flickering in the background.
Glue stick in one hand, a cult classic flickering on the screen. Glue Stick Social is a free weekly gathering for junk journaling and analog making, hosted by Dark Parlour Society inside Spire on Athens Avenue.
Spire's building has stood on Athens Avenue for more than a century, and in the early 1900s, Spiritualists gathered just two doors down for lectures on the human aura. On Wednesday nights, the old church glows again with scissors, paper scraps, and a picture show.
Supplies and inspiration are provided, so just show up. Knitters, stitchers, sketchers, zinesters, and makers of all kinds are welcome to bring their own projects. Just here for the film? Grab a seat. There's a little something for you too.
Opening night, Oct 21: Plan 9 from Outer Space (1957), Ed Wood's legendary "worst movie ever made." Film starts at 6:20.
Free, with optional donations to Spire. Street parking is very limited. Rideshare, transit, or carpooling is recommended, and please give yourself extra time.
