Overview

Two plays reveal how women’s hidden desires, unseen labor, and isolation expose society’s rules and dismiss women’s lives as insignificant.

Overtones by Alice Gerstenberg, Directed by Rebecca Covey

What is the cost when you cannot be fully yourself? Written more than a century before social media, Alice Gerstenberg’s play Overtones, explores the fallout when curated images mask complicated and messy realities. Startling, funny and ahead of its time, this play asks “What is the risk of revealing our humanity to each other?”

Trifles by Susan Glaspell, Directed by Marina Pareja

A man is dead, his wife is accused, and the answers lie in the things no one thinks matter. Inside a lonely farmhouse, two women discover what the men investigating the death overlook. As ordinary objects take on startling significance, they must decide what to reveal, and what to protect.
