Migration first begins as a state of mind. Long before a departure, a person can already have left: in thought, in intention, in the way the future is imagined. Many of the artists in this exhibition still live in Cuba, yet their thinking is set on elsewhere, held in a constant state of fight or by the hardship and uncertainty of daily life. For them, the process has already begun. What they seek is not necessarily to leave a country they love, but to transform the circumstances in which they live.
