🧠 Lecture: "Hunger Games: The Art of Adapting Fiction into Film"

🎤 Speaker: Professor Isabella Tecson

Join us for an evening diving into the world of Panem and beyond as Professor Isabella Tecson unpacks how The Hunger Games leapt from page to screen and became a global film phenomenon. Using Suzanne Collins’ bestselling series as a case study, this lecture will explore the structure of modern novels and screenplays, what makes them fundamentally different, and why a truly 1:1 adaptation is impossible—and why that’s actually a good thing for storytelling.

You’ll gain insight into how narrative, character, and world-building are reshaped for cinema, and what we can learn from The Hunger Games about the art and craft of adaptation today.

Professor Isabella Tecson is an adjunct English and film criticism professor at Queens College and CCNY, a working script doctor and film historian, and an award-winning playwright (The Fun Story, Welcome to Smalltown). She’s known for her popular blog on dating as an immigrant, and for blending rigorous research with a lifelong love of movies.
