🧠 Lecture: "The 'X' Factor: How One Direction Broke Through Globally"
🎤 Speaker: Jason Lipshutz
Join us for a captivating evening as Jason Lipshutz unpacks how five teenagers, thrown together on the UK version of The X Factor, became one of the defining pop groups of their generation. Drawing from his book, A Whole Lotta History: One Direction and the Sound That Shaped a Generation, Lipshutz will explore how One Direction learned to be a band in real time, harnessed YouTube and social media, and built a fiercely devoted global fanbase that transcended borders, language, and traditional music industry playbooks.
Jason Lipshutz is the co–chief content officer at Billboard, where he has covered music for over a decade and written cover stories on Taylor Swift, U2, Olivia Rodrigo, Blink-182, Lorde, Bon Iver, and Louis Tomlinson, among others. He is also the author of A Whole Lotta History and It Starts with One: The Legend and Legacy of Linkin Park, and has appeared on Access Hollywood, Good Morning America, and Entertainment Tonight.
