Opening Reception | ECHOES ATX × Carver Museum

FREE ADMISSION · $5–$10 ENCOURAGED DONATION ✳
Austin, please join us in celebration!
ECHOES ATX is delighted to invite you to the historic George Washington Carver Museum for the opening of In Living Memory, an exhibition honoring the people, places, and traditions that have shaped Black and Hispanic Austin.
In Living Memory is free and open to everyone at the George Washington Carver Museum.
Your support helps us compensate artists, bring exhibitions to life, and continue creating spaces dedicated to Black and Brown art, histories, and community.
Every contribution, large or small, helps keep ECHOES going. ✳
Black and Hispanic Austinites have long made place here. Through neighborhood businesses, music and art, gathering spaces, organizing, family traditions, and everyday life, generations have built spaces of their own and profoundly shaped Austin's cultural life. But cities do not remember evenly. As Austin changes, so do the people and institutions with the power to decide what stays, what is preserved, and what disappears.
Through the work of ten artists, discover portraits of East Austin neighbors and local legends, a towering Tejana family ofrenda, Super 8 film, photographs of protest and celebration, and intimate stories preserved through oral histories and community archives.
How do we make a place for ourselves on our own terms? What do we carry with us from the places and memories that shaped us? What do we inherit, and what do we leave for those who come after us?
Come explore the galleries, meet our artists, and celebrate with us in the Carver's beautiful, light-filled Drum! We are also working with community partners on possible light refreshments and a few participatory activities. We will share details as they are confirmed.
We can't wait to welcome you!
PLAN YOUR VISIT
The reception runs from 6 to 9 PM. Choose one free gallery-arrival ticket for each visitor, including children. Advance reservations are strongly encouraged. Your chosen 30-minute window tells us when you plan to arrive, not when you have to leave. Gallery admission is managed as space allows, and you are welcome to spend time in the Drum throughout the reception.
Please reserve only if you intend to attend. If your plans change, cancel your free Eventbrite reservation so someone else can use the space, then make a new free reservation for another available time or visit date. Walk-up registration assistance will be available if space permits. Larger groups of more than three can contact us in advance.
Admission is always free. If you have the means and would like to support ECHOES ATX, optional contributions are welcome. Suggested amounts are $5–$10. A donation is never required for entry and does not replace a free admission ticket.
All ages are welcome. The exhibition includes historical protest imagery and themes of displacement and reproductive justice. Free parking, accessible parking, restrooms and interior access are available; parking spaces are not guaranteed. For accessibility requests or questions, email echoesatx@gmail.com.
George Washington Carver Museum, Cultural and Genealogy Center 1165 Angelina Street, Austin, TX 78702
The exhibition will be on view through January 2027. The exact closing date will be announced separately.

IN LIVING MEMORY
Recepción de inauguración | ECHOES ATX × Carver Museum
Viernes 13 de noviembre de 2026 | De 6 a 9 p. m. | Entrada gratuita
¡Austin, acompáñanos a celebrar!
